#23 Is this really the end? Or just the beginning...

goal -- learn new things

1. Begin with the end in mind
Is a very positive approach as any task can become overwhelming if there aren't any boundaries

2.Accept responsibility for your own learning
If not me, then who will complete my tasks

3.View problems as challenges
If at first you don't succeed then try, try again

4. Have confidence in yourself as a competent, effective learner
If you keep learning it becomes a habit a good habit

5.Create your own learning toolbox
Keep all the things you learn in your toolbox and keep using them so you don't become "rusty"

6. Use technology to your advantage
This learning program was showing/teaching us to do just that

7. Teach and mentor others
Yes, absolutely without the discussions/chats/look at this/do you know what happened there, we would NOT have gotten very far

7 1/2. PLAY!Have fun! It's never too late to become a lifelong learner
Probably the most important as long as you don't lose sight of your goal

goal -- learn new things

#22 Audiobooks (or "the end is in sight")

Wow...NO OVERDUES OR LIBRARY FINES !
I had a look at Project Gutenberg online catalog, one category that intrigued me was "audiobook human-read". After checking that field I also discovered "audiobook computer-generated". I'm not sure whether they would sound much different when coming through speakers/headphones.

World eBook Fair states there are 220,000 eBooks from the Internet Archive and like a paper library free access to researchers, historians, scholars and the general public.
eBooks are certainly the way of the future!!

Will people still want to "read a book" by that I mean hold a book and turn the pages, yes I think so at least for a little while longer...

#21 Podcasts, Smodcasts!

I added "Blogging from the Alley" which is "dedicated to delivering the best and most entertaining news on podcasting" to my Bloglines account. After looking at some of the entries it is easy to see why, it covers a wide range of subjects which include a technical guide to podcasts to one on wine and beer.

As far as podcasts in libraries they are a great learning tool but would be difficult to manage as they would be noisy and the use of headphones would also be difficult to monitor.

It was nice to finally put a face to Helen Blowers, the voice we have been listening to over the last nine weeks...

#20 You too can YouTube

www.youtube.com a place of fun and games with an array of many interesting things, a fast moving place where lots of things happen, nothing like this peaceful picture...

#19 Discovering Web 2.0 tools

I looked at Web 2.0 awards under the category of "Questions and Advice". The winners were answers.yahoo.com and "Minti" and "Say-so"
The social aspect of these sites are very high everyone would have fun !!
When Yahoo asks "what do people think of Answers" the responses from the users were positive.

Yahoo states it answers "questions on every topic imaginable". It was certainly interesting to see the range of subjects covered. You also must wonder where all the answers are coming from - reliable sources or not.

Perhaps Yahoo's disclaimer says it all
Yahoo! does not evaluate or guarantee the accuracy of any Yahoo! Answers content. Click here for the Full Disclaimer.

#18 Web-based Apps: They're not just for desktops

The ability to create and share documents is very handy. It was also very straightforward to use and more accessible than Microsoft. The templates are very good and enables you to do just about anything.

Another new and exciting tool to get to know.

I especially liked planner.zoho.com at this time of year it would be good to organise all my Christmas lists and all my Christmas get togethers...

#17 Playing around with PBWiki

I have just finished playing around with plcmclearning.pbwiki.com

Tried my hand at editing in the favorite books section. It certainly would be a place to visit again to check out what others are currently reading.

I have also added my blog to the favorites...

#16 Wikis

The discovery resources are a very interesting overview of Wikis. It seems they all list the pros and cons "quick and easy to use" and "anyone can make changes". On the other hand, there is "not enough control" and "open to vandalism".

To safeguard the information a restriction can be placed on a site that allows only members to make changes. Also use of email validation and some charge a subscription, this all helps to cut down on vandalism.

I especially liked booklovers.pbwiki.com/Princeton%20Public%20Library

Wikis are a good way to share information, you could have a bookclub without leaving your open fire on a cold winter's night...

#15 On Library 2.0 & Web 2.0

After reading the articles on Web2.0 you realize that technology is moving forward at a very rapid rate, which is changing the face of libraries. It is longer books and "quiet please". There is a huge range of technologies helping to enhance the information we deliver to our customers. Information that is more up to date and readily available.

Libraries are certainly progressing and it is good to be trained in the latest "high tech" so we can answer any and all requests.

We must also remember customers still use libraries as a meeting place or just come to read the paper.

It comes down to knowing your customers and delivering the right type of information be it the latest fiction title or the current stock market details...

#14 Technorati

There are a vast amount of blogs and it is a terrific idea to have websites dedicated to blogs. I searched learning 2.0 and found a tremendous quantity of information.

Advanced search was better, there were just to many hits when I was searching using the basic search.

Though it was fascinating to watch the screen and see yet another post appear as if from nowhere but when I opened the post it was from Dallas USA...

#13 Del.icio.us

It was certainly fun to look at del.icio.us/ searching and tagging items but where is my privacy. In this day and age of privacy legislation where you can not find out any details (even your own) without identification.

I suppose the difference is I chose to register on Del.icio.us and use the website knowing that the whole world would see !!!

And I can also "peek" and see what others search and tag.

#12 Rollyo

Rollyo -- What an amazing site, to think you can create your own search engine. As well as other people being able to access and add to your searchrolls.

A very interesting tool for reference enquiries as everyone could add their knowledge to the search/enquiry.

The only drawback I see is knowing when to stop....

#11 LibraryThing

The amount of information on LibraryThing is quite astonishing. Imagine being able to catalogue all my books at home, but alas would everyone then want to borrow from my collection and would I then have to charge fines for late returns. The mind boggles...

Here is my most favourite book. If you want to see other books I really like !!

# 8 RSS Bloglines #9 Newsfeeds

Here is my Bloglines check out all my interests. It is quite fascinating what Bloglines can do for you. It still involves reading but from the screen not turning nice crisp pages of a book ...

Technorati - Very interesting site, I have read some great articles on Libraries Australia. More straightfoward than just doing internet searches for blogs...

It is useful to keep up to date with news items and also narrow to items that I am interested in.

I added quite a few to my Bloglines account

Card catalogues - now there's a story

Now beautiful pictures, links to other titles and with as much detail as you can handle, links to online resources.

The changes made to library catalogues through the years is overwhelming
